Mount Calvary Cemetery

Is your council interested in helping keep an Austin Catholic historic site for the next generation? Want to help honor the legacy of the original Catholic population of Austin? This is an ongoing project that needs your council’s help.

All Austin Chapter councils and assemblies are invited to lend a helping hand to St. Mary’s Cathedral Council in the maintenance of the Mount Calvary cemetery.  The cemetery is a resource of the Diocese of Austin.

See below a presentation of the history of Catholicism in Austin and Texas. The PDF presentation is titled “The Endurance of Faith” by Ted Eubanks.  ted.eubanks@gmail.com

The St. Mary’s Cathedral Council #14055 presently is tasked with overall cemetery maintenance, coming out every second Saturday of the month from 8am to 12pm. The scale of the work exceeds the capability of their individual council, and the cemetery is a resource of the entire Diocese.  We encourage willing councils and assemblies to lend a helping hand if possible.

Sections A, B, C, and F are presently under the care of Council #14055.  Councils or assemblies could adopt sections D, E, G, H, I, or J, perhaps with the goal of being the primary caretaker of a given section.  In the future, signs could be put up stating “This section under the care of Knights of Columbus Council #XXXXX” to let the public know of our contribution.  Sections I and J are populated with graves of Catholics of Hispanic descent, and perhaps a Spanish-speaking council would have particular interest, but not necessarily required.

If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to Jeffrey Thomas, Grand Knight Council #14055 jeffreythoma@yahoo.com

The next big event is the 2024 Mount Calvary Cemetery Orientation and Major Maintenance Day on the morning of Saturday April 13th.  Contact GK Jeffrey Thomas, Council #14055 to sign up.

Mount Calvary Cemetery is located just east of the northbound frontage road of Interstate 35 in central Austin at 2329 N IH-35 Frontage Rd Austin, TX 78722.
